There are two methods used to tie the basic netting knot. Either method can be used for most patterns. The choice of which method to learn is up to you. More finger movement is required with the thread method.
After learning the basic knot, the easiest way to practice it is by creating squares or rectangles with diamond shaped meshes as described in DIAMOND MESH NETTING.
SQUARE MESH NETTING uses Diamond Mesh Netting to create squares and rectangles with square shaped meshes. It usually forms the background for net embroidery. This type of netting is also seen in volleyball, and tennis nets.
CIRCULAR NETTING is used to create doilies, shawls, and lace edgings. This type of netting is used with both cloth centers and net centers. It is also used to make basketball nets, and shopping bags.
Once the basic netting knot is learned there are numerous decorative, increase, decrease, and edge stitch patterns that can be made.
