TO PREPARE TO NET WITH THREAD:

1. Cut a piece of crochet thread about 1 yard long.

thread for foundation loop

fold thread for foundation loop

2. Fold the thread into thirds so it is about 12 inches long.
Now you have a 3-strand length of crochet thread.

3. Tie the ends of the 3-strand length of crochet thread together with a square knot so you have a circle.
NOTE: The circle of thread is called the foundation loop.

tie foundation loop into a circle
fasten foundation loop to cord

4. Put one end of the cord through the foundation loop and tie the ends of the cord together in a bow.

5. Put your foot through the circle formed by the cord and step on the cord.

6. If necessary, tie the cord again so the top of the foundation loop is in front of you about waist high when the cord and thread are pulled taut

NOTE: Whenever the netting comes too close for you to work comfortably, just retie the cord so that your work is properly positioned.

fasten netting needle to foundation loop

7. Tie the loose end of the crochet thread from the netting needle to the foundation loop. For diamond or square mesh netting leave about a 3" or 4" tail. For circular netting leave a longer tail (at least as long as the radius of the doily).
